If your horse is injured and needs special care and extra attention, or just needs some time off from his competitive endeavors but has special needs, consider Thornwood Farm. It is often difficult in regular boarding situations to get your horse the skilled attention it needs to heal its body and/or mind to return to competition successfully. We have the knowledge and access to excellent equine health care professionals to ensure that your horse has a speedy recovery. Extreme injuries or medical conditions that require an inordinate amount of time are charged case by case. A horse requiring veterinarian care will be supervised by that veterinarian and aftercare guidelines will be strictly attended to. We also excel at reschooling racehorses for new careers. |
Resident: $35 per lesson. Public lessons $40 per hour. $35 per hour/ group. | Thornwood Farm has been breeding hunter type sporthorses and Thoroughbreds since 1986. We have had success in both the show ring and the racetrack. The Thoroughbreds we have raced have made the transition to other sports because we believe that breeding for temperment and soundness is just as important, if not more so, than conformation and ability. We support and participate in the PA Horse Breeders Association program to breed Thoroughbreds to race here in our state. Our breeding services include boarding, foaling and raising your foal for you. If you are looking for a sport horse stallion to cross with your mare, we are currently standing the 3-time Eastern Champion Andalusian, Cresswood Gitano Rey, owned by Lois Hamilton of Grove City, Pa. His beauty and extraordinary disposition makes him a joy to handle; it is an honor and a pleasure to have him in the barn. |

| Thornwood Farm is not a "sales barn." Amy Keefer is very particular about the horses she represents, and thinks the best matches are made when the horse and owner suit each other, both in ability and temperment. As your sales consultant, Amy will "beat the bushes" to find the most suitable horse for your needs. If you are selling a horse, you can be sure that Amy will represent it honestly, and only to qualified buyers in suitable situations for your horse. |

| Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association Zone 3 Region 3 Amy Keefer serves as the coach of both Slippery Rock University and Clarion University. The Slippery Rock team rides at the Storm Harbor Equestrian Center on campus at SRU. Amy travels to Storm Harbor twice a week during the competition season each semester to give the team their lessons, and coaches them at the IHSA meets. Courtney Gramlich is the manager of the Storm Harbor facility and the advisor to the Slippery Rock University Equestrian Team. She schedules the lesson groups based on each individual's class schedule and riding level, and coordinates team needs with facility management. Team members are required to volunteer 1 hour a week at Storm Harbor, over a six week period, as part of their team responsibilities. Having lessons available on campus ensures that all team members are able to take all of their lessons to progress and compete with confidence. There is some flexibility in the team lesson schedule to ensure that everyone who wants to participate can do so. For specifically SRUET or Storm Harbor info email Courtney at courtney.gramlich@sru.edu. The Clarion University Equestrian Team rides at Thornwood Farm. Amy accommodates them on her lesson horses, and also coaches them at the IHSA meets. Team members coordinate their schedules to take advantage of ride times and car pooling. If schedules cannot be coordinated, Amy will work with you on an individual basis. For more Clarion Equestrian Team info please contact Amy Keefer or Elizabeth Wise at s_egwise@clarion.edu. |
